Members of the Vernon Paddling Centre, Peggy Kassa, Lorellei Sullivan, Monika Lawrence, Debbie Jones, Chris Castrucow,  and Donna LePape recently competed in Salmon Arm paddling an Outrigger 6 and placed first in the Masters division and second over all.  They completed the 20km race in 1:52:50.  These six, coached by Dave Chambers,  are headed to Kona, Hawaii for the Queen Lili’uo’kalani Race taking place Labor Day weekend (Septmber 3rd). The women start this event paddling 18 miles from Kailua Bay to Honaunau.
The race is named in honour of Queen Lili’uo’kalani who ruled Hawaii at the time the US annexed Hawaii as a protectorate in the late 19 Century.  If you want to watch their training videos or leave them a comment to encourage and cheer them on check out their Kona Girls Crew Facebook page!
