Freshwater Challenge

The 2026 Freshwater Challenge 

DATE: Sunday, June 28th, 2026 

RACE START TIME: 8:00am

LOCATION: Kin Beach, Vernon, BC

Crews can have up to 9-12 paddlers. 

OFFICIAL CREWS – For official status, on every second lap, your crew must be all women, while the other laps can have all men or any mix of women and men. The lap sequence will be determined later and announced to the participants. 

UNOFFICIAL CREWS  – each crew can be any mix of women and men. 

40K CHANGE RACE - Open Boats 

This race is a 40 km team event, consisting of 8 laps of 5 km each. 

20K CHANGE RACE - Junior Boats (Under 18)

This race is a 20 km team event, consisting of 4 laps of 5 km each. 

RACE OUTLINE - Running Start,  left turns around the two buoys, and your club's/team's choice of beach or water change (off to the side) every 5KM. You can schedule full or partial crew changes as you like, noting the requirement of alternating all-women crews for official status. Awards will go to the top crews in the Official and Unofficial crew categories.  

NUTRITION & HYDRATION - Vernon Paddling Centre will provide snacks and water for all participants before and during the race at the shelter, with a lunch afterwards. Please pass along if there are any food allergies.
