Race Qualification

RACE QUALIFICATION

If you are interested in participating in races, VPC Executive have developed a formal selection criteria for team qualification.

A race committee comprised of 4 members will be responsible for making the decision for final team selection for those races that require qualification.  When we participate in races we will determine in advance which races are races that we will be sending a Participation Crew or a Race Crew to.  The decision will be based on the following criteria:

 To Qualify for a Race Crew

• An OC1 time trial of a distance at least 50% of the event. So if the race is 2000 metres, the time trial will be 1000 metres. For longer races such as change races, this would require a time trial probably at least the length of one shift)

• Attendance at practices

• Compatibility within a crew of 6

To Qualify for a Participation Crew

For those of us who prefer to just participate rather than racing competitively, selection will be based on:

• First come first served, but we would try our best to get all into a boat of some sort

• There must of course be a competent steers person.
